Signs of a leak
- The tank empties faster than usual, or the motor runs more often.
- Damp patches, peeling paint or salt marks on walls.
- Sound of running water when all taps are closed.
- A flush that keeps running into the commode.
A simple test
Close every tap at night, note the tank level (or water meter), and check again in the morning before anyone uses water. If the level has dropped, there is a leak somewhere between the tank and the taps.
When to call a plumber
A dripping tap washer is a small job, but leaks inside walls or floors need a plumber, because the damage grows with time. If water is near switches or sockets, switch off that circuit first.
