Work out the wall area
For each room, add the length of all walls and multiply by the height. Subtract doors and windows roughly. Painters quote per square foot, so this number helps you check their estimate.
What changes the price
- Paint type and brand (emulsion, enamel, weather-shield).
- Putty and crack filling on old walls.
- Number of coats (usually two).
- Height, scaffolding and outside walls.
Comparing quotes
Ask each painter for a written estimate that lists paint brand, quantity, number of coats and labour separately. Prices change often, so treat any online figure as a rough guide only.
